Day 28 Progress Report

As of 12/6/2020 (Day 28)

Stage 1 (GGB to Hawaii) 2,131nm (100% Complete)
Stage 2 (Hawaii to Cape Horn): 6,310 (40% Complete)
Stage 3 (Cape Horn to South Cape, NZ): 9,836
Stage 4 (South Cape, NZ to GGB): 6,348
Total Distance: 24,624 (19% Complete)

Please note due to winds Sparrow will be sailing far more distance than the course distances above. Percent complete is based on distance to end of Stage divided by the total Stage distance.

I’ve eased off the wind, basically because I’m tired of pounding into the wind, now about 80 degrees off. Easy, delightful going for a change with the wind down to 15 knots and me in no hurry to shake out a reef or two. Now at 22 degrees South near the Tropic of Capricorn, I detect a slight cooling/drying trend today which is very welcome. Squalls are way down from the last few weeks. Looks like I will have another day or so of this, then winds go lighter for a day, then fill in from the North, then NW as the SE Pacific high sets up for Sparrow. Hopefully good going for a while!!!

3,750 miles to Cape Horn.

  1. You’re doing great. So impressive…maybe the running. Conditions will allow you to attack that ambitious reading list!! Looking forward to some book reviews.

  3. Your mental strength is impressive. I now understand there is more to solo sailing than “sailing” know how. Forgive me from stating the obvious but I only started sailing in my seventies! πŸ™ƒπŸ‡πŸ‡²
